Biesse is taking part in the 19th National Food Collection Day.
Saturday 28th November was the 19th National Food Collection Day (in Italian, GNCA). In 456 supermarkets of the Marche region (11,000 in the whole of Italy), 143 of them in our province of Pesaro and Urbino, the Marche Food Bank Foundation Onlus was represented by over 5000 volunteers who invited people to donate foodstuffs like pasta, oil, tuna, tinned tomatoes, pulses, baby food and other long-life products.
This year, Biesse wanted to do its part as well, collaborating in an event that's worthy not only for those who choose to volunteer their time but also for those who donate some items to the Bank.
Here are the results of the collection: in Pesaro, 71,341kg of food (1.8% more than in 2014). In the entire Marche region, 254,550kg, showing a slight drop compared with last year (-1.6%).
The food items will be handed out to more than 380 charities working in the region, such as soup kitchens, temporary shelters, therapeutic communities, social support centre, etc., that help over 42,000 people in need.
