Biesse has published its Consolidated Non-Financial Statement - the new Sustainability Report 2021. This comprehensive report shows that the Group's focus on sustainability is already translating into facts and figures that make a concrete contribution to its main stakeholders and the environment. This focus has been further reinforced by the appointment of Sofia Provenzano to the new position of Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for the Group. 

It is the environment above all that characterises the 2021 sustainability results, with numbers that highlight the company's deep commitment:

• 100% of electricity purchased from renewable sources with guarantees of origin for the Group's Italian companies

• 5,470 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided by purchasing electricity from renewable sources with guarantees of origin for the Group's Italian companies (Scope 2 market based)

• 16,500 sqm of photovoltaic panels installed

• 668 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided through the use of photovoltaic panels

• 91% of waste produced was non-hazardous

• Various energy efficiency activities carried out and planned under the environmental management system

• Environmental management system certified according to UNI ISO 14001 for HSD S.p.A.

Regarding the focus on stakeholders and the local area, revenues for 2021 totalled 742.2 million euros, and the economic value distributed by the Group was 710 million euros. Across Italy and India, the Group boasts eight UNI ISO 9001 certified production facilities, and 93% of purchases are from local suppliers. In addition, HSD is the Lighthouse Plant of the Intelligent Factory Cluster, with the Electrospindle 4.0 project.

The individuals who work within Biesse remain at the heart of the company, with an ever-increasing focus on innovation: 260 people are engaged in Research and Development activities, amounting to a total of around 134,000 working hours. The Group's powerful innovative drive can also be seen in Open-I, the innovation lab, which builds links with the world of academia and international research.

A constant commitment to professional development and to safety remains at the forefront of the Group's approach: in 2021, more than 100,000 hours of training were provided to Biesse employees and partners, with more than 9,500 hours dedicated to safety in the workplace, certified by UNI ISO 45001 for Biesse S.p.A. and HSD S.p.A. In addition, 2021 saw continued support for social, cultural, artistic and sporting initiatives in the regions in which the Group operates.

In order to ensure continuity for the business and contribute to a decarbonised society, the energy supply system of the Group's main production plants was overhauled in order to make it more efficient. The process of rationalisation undertaken as part of this transformation also led to improvements in the Group's environmental performance, enabling Biesse to embark on the path necessary to obtain certification for the environmental management system in accordance with the ISO 14001 standard.
