The i4Q project "Industrial Data Services for Quality Control in Smart Manufacturing" has been launched

On 19 and 20 January, the kick-off meeting for the i4Q project "Industrial Data Services for Quality Control in Smart Manufacturing" was held, an initiative that is funded at European level under the aegis of Horizon 2020, the funding programme created by the European Commission with a view to supporting and promoting research.

The i4Q project involves 24 participants from 10 different countries, with a total budget of over 11 million euros; it is set to last 36 months. Partners include the CERTH Centre for Research and Technology (coordinator), IBM, Engineering, Whirlpool, DIN, the University of Valencia and the University of Berlin.
The global project was created to monitor quality in intelligent manufacturing and aims to provide an IoT-based Reliable Industrial Data Services (RIDS), a complete suite of 22 i4Q solutions which are capable of managing the enormous amounts of industrial data received from small, intelligent and inexpensive interconnected factory devices, in order to support online monitoring and control of production.

Biesse is taking part in this project as part of Open-I, the Group's innovation lab, an open model of innovation designed to provide access to the culture of innovation across the globe. The purpose of Biesse's participation in the project relates to diagnostics and IoT services, or in other words, better use of data, in order to lead towards an integrated zero-defect approach to manufacturing. The goal is to improve the quality, consistency and management of the data from CNC machines, opening the gate to new diagnostic tools that enable improvements in predictive analysis, a further reduction in machine faults and the early detection of problems, improving the quality of the end product and increasing the life cycle of the machine.
